(وَلَا تَنْكِحُوا مَا نَكَحَ آبَاؤُكُمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ), meaning: Do not marry those women whom your fathers have married.

(وَلَا تَنْكِحُوا مَا نَكَحَ آبَاؤُكُمْ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ), meaning: Do not marry from among women those whom your fathers have married.

(إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ), meaning: Do not do what you have already done in the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah).

(إِلَّا مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ), for indeed, you will not be held accountable for it.

(إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَاحِشَةً), meaning: a great sin, (وَمَقْتًا), meaning: an abomination (or hatred), (وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًا), meaning: what an evil path.

(وَسَاءَ سَبِيلًا), meaning: what an evil path for one who treads it, because this is from the customs of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), from which Islam came to be free and to disassociate from.
