(يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ هَمَّ قَوْمٌ أَنْ يَبْسُطُوا إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فَكَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلْ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ) (11)
It is a requirement of faith to constantly show gratitude for His blessings by remembering them.
(يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ) meaning: [Remember His favor] in His protection of you from your enemies: (إِذْ هَمَّ قَوْمٌ أَنْ يَبْسُطُوا إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ) meaning: by attacking you with killing and destruction: (فَكَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ) meaning: He prevented their hands from reaching you and averted their harm from you.
The enemies wish to inflict hardship and tribulation upon the Muslims, but He, glory be to Him, protects them by His grace and prevents their enemies from causing them harm.
Gratitude for a blessing means recognizing the right of the Bestower in His blessings and fulfilling it as the Bestower wishes. And among the blessings, its gratitude is that we sacrifice for the sake of the Bestower.
(إِذْ هَمَّ قَوْمٌ أَنْ يَبْسُطُوا إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ) Quraysh intended to harm the Muslims during their weakness, but Allah protected them from them.
(وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ) The reliance (tawakkul) of a servant is according to the strength of their faith.
