This verse is a fundamental principle for the prohibition of intoxicants (khamr) and all intoxicating substances, whether in small or large quantities, and gambling of all types.

(رِجْسٌ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ) It causes enmity and hatred, hinders remembrance of Allah and prayer, invites to illicit sexual relations, fosters companionship with devils, exposes private matters, and reveals secrets.

Allah the Exalted called these things mentioned in this verse "filth" (rijs) and commanded their avoidance.

Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad said: "Everything that distracts from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer is a form of gambling (maysir)."

The intoxicant of this world is the sum of all sin and the key to evil.

(فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ), meaning: abandon it, (لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ), and this is an encouragement.

(فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ), indeed, the Truth (Allah) has commanded to avoid them, meaning: do not even approach the place where intoxicants are found, because proximity might tempt you to consume them.

(فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ), in order to protect yourself from forbidden things, you must not approach prohibitions.
