(فَأَقْبَلَتْ امْرَأَتُهُ فِي صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌ) (29)
(So his wife came forward with a cry) meaning: with a great shout.
Al-Suddi said: When Jibreel (Gabriel), peace be upon him, gave Sarah the glad tidings of Isaac, she struck her face in astonishment.
(Then she struck her face) meaning: she struck her forehead with her hand, which is a depiction of women's astonishment and disbelief.
(Then she struck her face) meaning: she struck her forehead with her hand.
(So his wife came forward with a cry and struck her face, and said, "An old barren woman!") She came forward with a "sarrah" meaning a shout and an uproar, and she struck her face, meaning she slapped it, saying that she was an old barren woman.
(And said, "An old barren woman!") She found it improbable that a child would come forth in that state.
She denied giving birth to a boy, as she had become an old barren woman.
At that time, she was ninety-nine years old, and Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him, was one hundred years old.
