And when they measure out [grain] for them or weigh out [goods] for them, they cause loss. (3)
This reveals a blameworthy habit: the eagerness to increase their own wealth, and the failure to give those entitled to rights their full due.
For some, treachery and impudence have become a way of life.
They combined treachery with baseness and low ambition.
﴿وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ﴾ meaning for the people ﴿أَوْ وَزَنُوهُمْ﴾ for their benefit ﴿يُخْسِرُونَ﴾ they diminish it little by little.
Allah destroyed the people of Shu'ayb and annihilated them because they used to defraud people in measurement and weight.
