(وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الأَقَاوِيلِ) (And if he had fabricated against Us some [false] sayings) meaning: if he had falsely attributed something to Us.
(وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا) (And if he had fabricated against Us) meaning: Muhammad (peace be upon him) (بَعْضَ الأَقَاوِيلِ) (some [false] sayings), by adding to the revelation or subtracting from it.
(وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الأَقَاوِيلِ) (And if he had fabricated against Us some [false] sayings), and if he had claimed something against Us that We did not say.
(وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا) (And if he had fabricated against Us) meaning: Muhammad (peace be upon him), if he were as they claim, an imposter against Us, and had added to the message or subtracted from it, or said something from himself and attributed it to Us, which is not the case, We would have hastened to punish him.
