(مَنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمَنَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَجَاءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُنِيبٍ)
The true measure of reverence (khashyah) is that you fear Allah when no one but Him sees you.
(مَنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمَنَ بِالْغَيْبِ): Meaning, whoever feared Allah in secret, where no one sees him except Allah, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And a man who remembered Allah in solitude, and his eyes overflowed with tears."
(مَنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمَنَ بِالْغَيْبِ): This is a substitute for His saying (Glorified and Exalted be He): (أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍ) [one who is ever-returning to Allah and ever-mindful], for the ever-returning (awwab) was only ever-returning and ever-mindful because he was in awe of his Lord, and feared meeting Him and His punishment.
(مَنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمَنَ بِالْغَيْبِ): A reverence that revives hearts.
(وَجَاءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُنِيبٍ): Meaning, he met Allah on the Day of Resurrection with a sound heart, one that is repentant and submissive to Him.
Since the benefit of obedience is continuous until death, He said: (وَجَاءَ), meaning after death, (بِقَلْبٍ مُنِيبٍ), meaning a heart returning to Allah Almighty with sincere remorse and heartfelt regret.
Due to the weakness of faith in the Unseen (al-Ghayb) in the hearts of Muslims, the call to Allah, or sacrifice in the way of His religion and exalting His word, has not found importance in their hearts.
He obeyed Allah and made others obedient to Allah.
(مَنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمَنَ بِالْغَيْبِ): Al-Fudayl ibn Iyad said: "He is the man who remembers his sins in solitude, then seeks Allah's forgiveness for them."
