(تَرْمِيهِمْ بِحِجَارَةٍ مِنْ سِجِّيلٍ) (4)
Allah cast them, just as He had cast the people of Lot before.
The birds did not cast, but Allah cast.
The true doer is Allah, glorified and exalted be He.
There is no doubt that the pelting of the People of the Elephant with stones was among the great signs demonstrating the immense status of the Kaaba and the Prophetic mission (of Muhammad).
Allah made for the Arabs a weapon from the stones of Al-Muhassab.
The place was named Muhassab due to the abundance of pebbles (hasba') in it.
He sent upon them a storm of pebbles (hasib) from the sky.
It was said: The stones were larger than a lentil and smaller than a chickpea.
