(فَرَاغَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَجَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ) (26)
(فَرَاغَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ) Ibn Abbas said: He went to Sarah's dwelling.
(فَراغَ إلى أهْلِهِ فَجاءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ) Meaning, he went secretly from them so that they would not notice him.
(فَجَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ): And it is part of the etiquette of a host to conceal his preparations and to hasten with the hospitality without the guest noticing, out of fear that the guest might prevent him from bringing the hospitality.
(فَرَاغَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ) indicates the excellent character and generosity of Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him. For a generous person conceals from his guest the effort involved in his hospitality so as not to burden him. This is further from showing off and falls under the category of keeping one's giving private.
Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him, honored his angelic guests and did not ask for their permission or consult them. If he had consulted them, they would not have allowed him, because angels do not eat or drink. This indicates the desirability of honoring a guest without asking or seeking permission.
(فَجَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ) Meaning: from the best of his possessions.
His saying: (فَجَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ) indicates that he served the guest himself.
He (Ibrahim), peace and blessings be upon him, was very hospitable.
