(And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you and the patient, and We will test your reports.) (47:31)
(And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you and the patient) meaning: those who exert effort in the way of Allah, and those who are patient in the face of hardships.
(And We will surely test you) the trials of this world are an examination for the believer, and a punishment and chastisement for the disbeliever.
(And We will surely test you) the beloved must test the lover.
(And the patient) there is no nation that Allah chose to carry His Book except that it was tested with patience.
(And We will test your reports) meaning: We will test you with the struggle against the self and the sacrifice of lives.
Through trials, the diligent is distinguished from the non-diligent, the truthful from the liar, and the evil from the good.
(And We will test your reports) meaning: We will see who strives for the religion and who does not.
(And We will test your reports) We will examine them and make them manifest.
The Ummah does not deserve the trust of its Lord except after earthquakes and severe hardships.
(And We will test your reports) meaning: the reports of your effort, your faith, your campaigns, and your declarations, and the extent of the strength of your tongues in spreading the truth and proclaiming it; whether it is pure and firm, or if it has been tainted by laziness and favoritism out of fear of the blame of the blamer.
(And We will test your reports) meaning: so that the one who works for Allah and the one who works for others may become apparent to people.
(And We will test your reports) Did you think that your effort would remain without testing the reports of those who undertake it, from the stirring of discord and other things?
(And We will test your reports) meaning: We will test you; so We may know who is truthful in what he was given of faith and who is a liar.
(And We will test your reports) meaning: We will reveal what is in your hearts and what is on your tongues of sincerity.
Conditions befall the Ummah to correct its path.
