Surah 47 • Verse 23

أُو۟لَـٰۤىِٕكَ ٱلَّذِینَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمۡ وَأَعۡمَىٰۤ أَبۡصَـٰرَهُمۡ

Tafsir

التفسير التبليغي

(أُوْلَئِكَ الَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمْ اللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمْ وَأَعْمَى أَبْصَارَهُمْ) (Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, so He made them deaf and blinded their sight.)

They became heavy [slow, reluctant] concerning the command of Allah, so He clarified their state that led to that.

(فَأَصَمَّهُمْ) from benefiting from what they hear, (وَأَعْمَى أَبْصَارَهُمْ).

Their hearing is not a hearing of remembrance, and their seeing is not a seeing of contemplation, so they have no hearing and no seeing.

(فَأَصَمَّهُمْ) He did not say "He made their ears deaf," as He said (وَأَعْمَى أَبْصَارَهُمْ); because blindness can be in the physical sight and in the insight, so He clarified the intended meaning for both. As for deafness (صَمَم), its place is one thing, which is the ear.

(فَأَصَمَّهُمْ) meaning: from listening to the truth.

It calls for exerting utmost effort in contemplating His verses and extracting what they contain, because this is the only means to understand the Noble Quran.

(فَأَصَمَّهُمْ وَأَعْمَى أَبْصَارَهُمْ) from seeing the truth and its people.
