(لَا خَيْرَ فِي كَثِيرٍ مِنْ نَجْوَاهُمْ إِلَّا مَنْ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةٍ أَوْ مَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ إِصْلَاحٍ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ مَرْضَاةِ اللَّهِ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْراً عَظِيماً) (114)
The verse... (لَا خَيْرَ فِي كَثِيرٍ مِنْ نَجْوَاهُمْ) (There is no good in much of their secret counsel) encourages charity, enjoining good, and making peace among people. It indicates that a person's speech is against them, not for them, except for what falls into these categories or similar ones.
(إِلَّا مَنْ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةٍ) (except for him who enjoins charity) meaning, except for the secret counsel of one who enjoins charity.
*An-Najwa* is whispering in conversation.
The purpose of the verse is social education.
Allah has forbidden Muslims from secret counsel (najwa) on more than one occasion, because whispering is characteristic of the hypocrites.
Allah has legislated reconciliation to bring together disputing parties and remove discord between them, thereby purifying souls and eliminating grudges. Making peace among people is one of the most noble acts of drawing closer to Allah and one of the greatest acts of obedience if it is done seeking the pleasure of Allah the Almighty.
The category excluded by the exception is specified in three matters: charity, good deeds, and making peace among people.
It was narrated from Abu Ad-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not inform you of something better than the rank of fasting, prayer, and charity?" They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Reconciling between people, for discord between people is the shaver (destroyer)." (Narrated by Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)
(وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ ابْتِغَاءَ مَرْضَاةِ اللَّهِ) (And whoever does that, seeking the pleasure of Allah) An action has no spirit except with intention.
Among what was narrated from Jesus (peace be upon him) is that he said: "Indeed, matters are three: a matter whose rightness has become clear to you, so follow it; a matter whose error has become clear to you, so avoid it; and a matter about which there is disagreement, so refer it to its knowledgeable one."
