(And every soul will come forth, with it a driver and a witness.) (50:21)

﴿كُلُّ نَفْسٍ﴾: Meaning, every accountable soul.

People will rise generally from their graves, and what was in their breasts will be brought forth.

﴿كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَعَهَا سَائِقٌ وَشَهِيدٌ﴾: Meaning, an angel who drives it to the gathering place (Mahshar), and an angel who testifies against it regarding its deeds.

Uthman ibn Affan said: A driver who drives it to Allah, and a witness who testifies against it regarding what it did.

From Abu Hurairah: The driver is the angel, and the witness is the deed.

From Ibn Abbas: The driver is from the angels, and the witness is the human being himself, testifying against himself.
