التفسير التبليغي
(And the stupor of death will come with the truth; that is what you were trying to avoid.) (50:19)
﴿وَجَاءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّ ...﴾ Allah the Almighty has clarified that at the time of death, everything becomes clear to a person.
It is authentically reported in the Sahih collections from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when death overtook him, he began to wipe the sweat from his face and say: "Glory be to Allah! Indeed, death has its agonies."
A person does not realize the reality of his shortcomings except through two things: death, or striving in the way of Allah.
When he goes forth in the way of Allah as a caller (to Islam) and a conveyer (of its message), he comes to know the reality of his own shortcomings.
﴿ذَلِكَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ﴾: He would turn away from the truth and the effort for the truth, so the truth came to him at the moment of witnessing (death).
