التفسير التبليغي

(Those whose eyes were under a covering from My Remembrance, and they were not able to hear.) (101)

(Those whose eyes were under a covering from My Remembrance); meaning, they became blind and heedless to accepting guidance and following the truth.

These people seek to achieve their goals and have their needs met without bearing the slightest responsibility for the establishment of the religion in the *Ummah* (Muslim community).

Their gatherings are filled with backbiting, slander, obscene talk, and disparagement of the diligent scholars (*mujtahideen*). Their environments have become devoid of the remembrance of their Creator, the Creator of the universe, Glorified be He in His loftiness. Their mockery, ridicule, and hatred for the diligent scholars have reached an extreme level; we ask Allah for forgiveness and well-being.

(Their eyes were under a covering from My Remembrance); and we have seen in our time those who sold their religion for a meager worldly gain, to imitate that mercenary faction who spoke ill with their tongues and informed on the callers (to Islam) to governments, so that they might achieve their worldly aims.

(Their eyes were under a covering from My Remembrance)... Turning away and being heedless of His remembrance blinds and deafens.

(And they were not able to hear)... due to their hatred for the truth and its people.

(And they were not able to hear)... meaning they hate to hear!

(They were not able to hear) because of their intense turning away from environments of faith, and their souls do not allow them to listen.

(And they were not able to hear); meaning, to hear My remembrance. Masses of blind people are repulsed when Allah is mentioned, and rejoice when anyone other than Him is mentioned: (And when Allah Alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion, but when those [idols] other than Him are mentioned, immediately they rejoice.)

Look at who it is that cannot hear the remembrance of Allah Almighty!

(They were not able to hear)... The negation of ability here does not mean a lack of power, but rather it is an expression of the intense hatred that has taken hold of them and overwhelmed their souls, such that it is as if they are unable to hear!
